Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you. Hip hip hooray! The Brussels Capital Region is blowing out 28 candles and celebrating the occasion with the Iris Festival on 6 and 7 May. All weekend long you can stroll from one corner of Brussels to the next for free music, theatre and activities. We’re joining in. What about you?
Iris Festival: a look behind the scenes of the city
Even if you’ve lived here for years, Brussels surprises you again and again. So the Iris Festival is the perfect opportunity to discover the city’s hidden gems. With street theatre, performances and tours for young and old. And not just around the Grand Place. Because Anderlecht, Saint-Gilles, Molenbeek-Saint-Jean and Forest are opening some hidden places to the public too. This means you can take a look inside the smallest beguinage in Belgium and gaze down on the city from the roof terrace at WIELS, the Centre for Contemporary Art.
We Are Belgium
The Iris Festival will end on Sunday evening with a bang, through the ‘We Are Belgium’ spectacle. The concert will combine different musical traditions on one stage. Sing and dance with Natalia, Merdan Taplak and Marie Daulne.
Do you know why the iris is the symbol of Brussels?
The Flemings have a lion and the Walloons a rooster. So why does Brussels celebrate the festival of the iris? Because this lily thrives in marshy areas, like our capital once was. The name Brussels comes from Broekzele – settlement by the marsh. And the colours yellow and blue? These are a nod to the European flag. After all, we are the capital of Europe.
Viage, always connected to Brussels
At Viage, we are proud Brussels residents. We love the melting pot of cultures and the spirited temperament of the city. Viage fits perfectly with this bustling atmosphere. Because the casino is the only location in Brussels where you can find all sorts of entertainment. You can enjoy delicious dishes in the restaurant, chat to friends at our bar and sing along enthusiastically to the performances. At Viage, you can also have fun at the gaming tables and take part in a wide range of competitions and activities. Just like Brussels, we surprise you again and again.
Come to the Iris Festival on 6 and 7 May, Brussels’ most colourful festival. And don’t forget to pop into Viage. See you then!
