On 19 and 20 September it’s Heritage Days. Since 1989, this day has been organised every year worldwide on the second Sunday of September, this year it will be the 13th. Today, the Heritage Days have become the biggest cultural event in our country. The goal of the event is to allow the greatest possible number of people to discover the gems of our heritage, which often open their doors to the public especially for the occasion. Brussels is a bit different. We always want to be a little different. So we will have two Heritage Days in the following weekend, which also include car-free Sundays.
This year, the Heritage Days are all about colour. Be it inside buildings, on their façades or in public spaces, colour is a key feature of Brussels’ heritage and can be seen throughout our city, injecting light and life into our everyday surroundings. Not only do interiors shine in various shades, façades and public spaces also often do so. In the Brussels metro network, for example, you can admire various colourful works of art, the Grand Place shines in gold when the sun’s rays touch the façades and roofs, and Belgian art deco stands out not only with its geometric shapes, but also with its bright, contrasting colours. You can discover all this and much more during various guided walks.
Heritage Days can go ahead as safely and as seamlessly as possible, visits to indoor sites must be booked in advance on this website https://www.heritagedays.brussels/. You can also consult the complete programme, which is packed with visits and all kinds of activities, from ordinary walks, treasure hunts, bus tours or family activities to visits in sign language. If you’re not such a planner and prefer to let yourself be swept along on the waves of the here and now, stroll into the Sint-Gorikshallen during Heritage Days. There, urban.brussels will welcome you at their information point with all the information you need about the accessible locations. You’ll also discover many publications, some of them on the occasion of the Heritage Days, and there are several exhibitions to see.
When you suddenly get tired of all of it in the middle of Brussels, feel free to take a break. Grand Casino Brussels VIAGE is open every day. We serve colourful cocktails in the Cinna-Bar, you can enjoy the rustic interior of the restaurant VIAGE Grill and play with the colours red, green and black at our gaming tables. For more glitter we refer to the slot machines. In short: our monumental entertainment paradise VIAGE is the perfect ending to a day out in Brussels.
